Recommended Extension: AI warning for Steam
3 December 2025
As tagging every single bad actor on Steam who uses AI is a laborious project which simply and easily overwhelms even the most industrious weasel, I am happy to report that a good samaritan out there, seeeeew, has made a userscrupt and browser extension which automatically pops up a modal when you visit a store page with an AI disclosure. It works seamlessly and gets directly into your face, so you know you don't have to care about whatever game you're going to look at. (Since evidently the creator didn't either.)
The extension's source code can be vetted on Github. It can be installed as a UserScript in any userscript-supported browser environment, or directly in Firefox or Chrome as an extension. Links are provided on the Github page, and have been copied here for convenience:
You can also install this extension into Steam itself using a third-party extension tool. Let's talk briefly about that.
Installing with Millenium
Millenium is a Steam extension framework built to replace the old Steam theming system. It's officially recognized by Valve as a third party tool, though with their usual libertarian caveat of "we didn't make this and are not responsible for it."
I'm personally a fan of extending software that we use, and think it's a fundamental freedom of a healthy software ecosystem. I like that Millenium claims to personally vett updates to their plugins, and thus seems safer than some similar tools made for applications like Discord. (Better Discord, for example, although extremely usable and useful, does not do much to vett plugins for safety.)
Millenium has an extension called Extendium which allows you to install Chrome Extensions directly into the Steam client. With this, you can install the Chrome Extension version of the AI warning directly into your client, and it works seamlessly like a dream. This is how I've been driving it all day, and has made browsing my discovery queue much easier.
